Mount Matutum is an active volcano that sits 7500 feet above sea level and is located 30 kilometers away from General Santos City. The foothill of this landmass is inhabited by the indigenous tribe of B’laan.
This volcano is host to a diversity of flora and fauna, housing both the Philippine Eagle and Tarsier. Currently, there are 110 plant species and 57 animal species identified among the forests of Matutum. Both the national and local government work hard for the conservation and promotion of this volcano. As of now, there are hiking activities held where hikers are required to plant seedlings in select areas.
The trek towards the top will require you to pass by dense forests, vines, mosses, rivers, creeks, and even mud. But every step is worth it especially if you are a nature lover.
